PRIDE GUIDE 1997 GAY PEOPLE'S CHRONICLE C-5
Thrill rides are just a part of the two-day Erie Pride
by Michael Mahler
Erie, Pa.-The Erie region will hold its annual Pride festivities the weekend of Saturday June 14 and Sunday June 15. For the first time, Pride will be held as a two-day event, with a picnic on Saturday followed by Sunday at an amusement park.
The Saturday picnic will be at Presque Isle State Park at Cabin 2, near Beach 6. This is the same site that has been used in previous years. The picnic will begin at 1 pm and will end no later than sundown.
There is no cost for attendance, but donations will be received quite gratefully. Some food will be provided, but folks are encouraged to bring a dish to pass. There will also be games and other activities. Parents, children and straight friends are definitely welcome, as always. There will be activities for children. Groups, local or not, wishing to display informational materials are encouraged to contact the Pride Picnic organizers for table arrangements by June 7.
As in previous years, a family portrait will be taken at the picnic, at 5 pm. Being in the portrait is entirely optional; the picture will be put on the Pride web page and also run in the July Erie Gay Community News.

Please note that Pennsylvania state law forbids alcoholic beverages at state parks. Sunday will feature some new events and
activities. There will be an Interfaith Pride Celebration at the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Erie, 7180 New Perry Highway. This will begin at 10:30 am.
There will be a Sunday afternoon get-together at Waldameer Park, a local amusement park by Presque Isle that celebrated its centennial recently. This will begin at 1 pm, and folks are encouraged to wear rainbow ribbons or attire. Rainbow ribbons will be available at the Pride Picnic on Saturday. Please note that the outing to Waldameer Park is not sponsored by the park.
